I wanted to make something different with my bread, so I made Beer Bread.
Now, I have a Breadmaker, but if you don't, just make the bread as you usually do.
Put the ingredients into the breadmaker in the following order, and then put it on the normal "bread" cycle.
1 cup (225 ml) beer (REAL BEER.... I used Warlock's Broth, because it was Hallowe'en and it was only 99p in Lidl, but you can use any type of ale you like.)
3 tbsp oil
2 tbsp sugar
2 tbsp salt
3 cups (390g) bread flour (white or brown)
1 sachet (7g) instant yeast
Let the cycle go, and make sure you take the bread out as soon as its finished, because I find the bread gets soggy if you leave it in the machine too long.
Lovely warm with butter, or make a sandwich with steak sausages.... nom!
Costing:
Beer: 50p
Oil: 4p
sugar: 4p
salt: 1p
flour: 16p
yeast 11p
total: 86p per 500g loaf
